The Benefits of a Healthy Lifestyle – The HR Heads Way!

At HR Heads, the DNA that binds us is a mutual love for sports, exercise, and the great outdoors (and recruitment of course!). Not only do we actively encourage our employees to take time out of their busy days to visit the gym, go for a run, or just enjoy some fresh air; we plan several sporting challenges and events throughout the year.

We’re very proud to partner with Macmillan Cancer Support, and over the years have collectively raised over £13,000 for the charity. Each year we commit to raising £3,000 for Macmillan and we do this as a HR Heads team, and sometimes with our wonderful HR network! Various sporting events we’ve taken part in over the years include the Bournemouth marathon, Winchester Pedal Paddle Pace, Nelson’s Tour De Test Valley, the Winchester half, our own 5-a-side football tournament and too many team runs to count!

There are so many proven benefits to having an active lifestyle, it can:

  • make you happier
  • strengthen your muscles and bones
  • increase your energy levels
  • decrease your risk of disease
  • give you a healthy glow
  • help your memory
  • help you relax and get a good night sleep

Our employee’s health and wellbeing is very important to us, so we’ve introduced a flexible working policy that enables employees to make that 6pm gym class, Friday night football training, or even that super early morning gym session if they’re brave enough.

Don’t get me wrong – we’re not always so good! There’s often a bag of sugared donuts that appear with the tea round, or another birthday cake on the desk that really does need to be eaten. We all enjoy heading to the pub after work on a Friday for a few drinks and once a month we meet for a big team breakfast – so the exercise is needed!

Exercise has a powerful impact on cognitive processing as well as how we feel emotionally. This study from 2015 discovered that how employees feel about their working life is influenced by exercise. The HR Heads team is very close – both in working relationships and physical seating. We spend so much time in the company of our colleagues, and in such close proximity, that mood and emotions are to be very carefully considered as they will impact the wider team. Healthy and happy employees are proven to be far more productive, positive, and will interact better with colleagues and clients alike.

Here at HR Heads, we want to go home at the end of a great day, looking forward to the next. We strive to provide a working environment where we can achieve this, as we believe this is what makes a successful team.
