Performance Management: Creating Elite Performance in Business

The HR Heads Breakfast Forums are designed with you in mind, encouraging participation through group discussion and activity, as well as providing an opportunity for HR professionals to openly learn about current trends and best practice across specific HR topics.

On Thursday 9th May HR Heads hosted a Breakfast Forum entitled Performance Management: Creating Elite Performance in Business, in Basingstoke with guest speaker Michael Chivers.

Michael kicked off the morning by giving an insight into his sporting background, not just running marathons but working for British Cycling as the People & Change Director. The synergy between great business performance and that of a top-class athlete is one that might not be drawn upon too often. Yet in our HR Heads Breakfast Forum this morning, Michael brought the lessons that can be learned and extracted to life with some clever examples and understanding of previous failures.

Key Takeaways from the Performance Management Breakfast Forum:

  1. You cannot inflict performance on people, they have to want it themselves and be motivated to achieve.
  2. The culture and influence from top-down is key in creating an environment of motivation.
  3. Marginal Gains is not new, Kaizen methodologies are not sexy, but when implemented well they can be extremely effective.
