How long are candidates typically on the market?

Perhaps, more than ever, it is a candidate’s market.

Typically, candidates aren’t on the market for long and are usually engage in multiple processes when they are looking for their next career move.

For each candidate, the time they are available for varies, but Hiring Managers are having to take into account the fact that it is a candidate-driven market when looking at how long the hiring process should be.

We are strongly advising at the start of each hiring process that the key decision-makers are available for prospective interviews.

Not only does blocking out time speed up the entire process, ensuring that candidates aren’t left waiting for long periods of time between interviews – it also helps lessen the risk of them receiving – and accepting – a rival offer from another company during your process.

How long should the hiring process be?

As every process varies, this is a tricky question to answer and is a bit like asking: How long is a piece of string?

However the smoother the process, the more likely you are to attract and hire the best candidate.

As I mentioned above, it’s a good plan to block out time for the various stages of the process, once how that looks has been decided, ensuring the process isn’t drawn out leaving candidates disengaged.

We also advise having a clear structure so candidates are aware when to expect the next stages of the process should occur so they are aware of how it fits in with their other opportunities and when to expect feedback.

How long is it taking to fill HR roles?

Due to the extremely high demand for Talent Acquisition Specialists, these roles are filling incredibly quickly, as organisations are eager to secure the most talented individuals before they receive other offers.

However, more generally, the time to fill varies depending on the role; although I would caveat that with the fact that the war on talent is fierce, and the best talent has never been in more demand.
