Head of Talent Retention | West Yorkshire | 7-month FTC | Public Sector

We are looking to hire a Head of Talent Retention on an FTC until the end of March to design and lead an ambitious talent retention programme.

This programme will support a large group of candidates who are reaching the end of their deployment or are in over-supply to explore and secure alternative roles within the organisation.

Within this role you will work collaboratively with a range of partners to design, develop and deliver a programme to connect candidates with their next role within the organisation. You will be working with a range of key stakeholders therefore it is essential that you are able to influence, educate and manage these individuals.

As Head of Talent Retention your key responsibilities will be:

  • Analysing complex data and insights to identify and broker strategically important employment and training opportunities for the talent pool
  • Evaluating the impact of the programme to inform both in-programme improvements and underpin the assessment of future recommendations
  • Leading the development and delivery of large-scale excellent candidate experience to engage and retain talent through professional and co-designed planning, communication and delivery
  • Providing strategic direction and support for service and workforce leaders across the local area to identify priorities and opportunities for retention and workforce placements
  • Communicating highly complex, highly sensitive and highly contentious information plus leading changes which may involve difficult and challenging situations
  • Setting the budget and authorising invoices
  • Providing highly effective leadership and management to the project and organisation

Skills, knowledge and experience:


  • Masters degree or degree level plus significant experience equivalent to Masters
  • Higher level of knowledge in Workforce Planning, Recruitment or Talent Management. This can be gained through a Master’s Degree, experience or a combination of the two
  • Proven track record of achievement in complex project design, delivery and impact
  • Expertise in equality, diversity and inclusion, ideally across both workforce and service-user perspectives
  • Operational leadership in a complex organisation or system
  • Project/programme leadership and delivery
  • Knowledge and passion for enabling, understanding and realising positive employment outcomes for individuals and partners


  • CIPD Qualified
  • Formal, specialist Project Management qualification i.e. Prince 2 Practitioner
