The Human Resources Business Partner owns the HR/client relationships into the assigned business area and provides the ‘voice of the customer’ back to the specialist HR teams (OD, talent acquisition, reward, development, operations, etc) to ensure the tools, frameworks, policies and service levels meet the requirements of the assigned business areas.

Roles and responsibilities of the Human Resources Business Partner role:

  • Support the DHRBP to develop a detailed and commercially focused HR plan for the next 12 – 24 months; combining the implementation of Group driven HR agenda and projects and the design and implementation of locally driven HR requirements. The plan will include (but is not limited to): o Organisation design/structure
  • Workforce planning
  • Skill and competency targets
  • Performance management
  • Succession planning
  • Recruitment targets
  • Leadership development
  • Training (e.g. onboarding, mandatory, skills development, etc.)
  • Embedding the organisation’s behavioural framework into everyday working practices
  • Reward and recognition
  • How ID&E targets will be achieved
  • Employee engagement
  • Using the overall plan developed by the DHRBP and working in partnership with the assigned business management teams
  • Understand and anticipate the need for continuous improvement in our people practices, diagnose underlying issues and make the case for change with business leaders
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships across a broad range of stakeholders, including managers, employees, trade union representatives (as appropriate) and external clients
  • Drive consistency in HR practices across the business by ensuring the robust implementation and use of all current HR frameworks, tools and policies
  • Coach and build the capability of managers to anticipate and pre-empt organisational issues, cultivate a culture of line manager responsibility and accountability for front line human resources
  • Provide expert input across the full range of HR issues for assigned business area; acting as the point of contact and subject matter expert on complex employment cases and projects and providing HR related advice
  • Support the design and implementation of HR transformation and change programmes for assigned business area, including restructuring, collective consultation, variation of contracts and TUPE transfers
  • Participate in relevant projects, leading and championing requirements of individual teams and/or HR
  • Be an ambassador for the HR function and people agenda internally and externally (as appropriate)
  • Keep up to date with external trends in HR and best practice
  • Ensure legal compliance in all HR activities across the business

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience in HR roles, ideally in a similar organisation (size, industry sector and employee base)
  • Experience in each of the following specialist areas of HR; talent acquisition and development, reward, policy development, shared service delivery and employment engagement/culture change
  • Strong track-record in HR generalist and change management roles
  • Commercial acumen and credibility
  • Ability to influence at all levels through compelling argument and data
  • Thorough working knowledge of UK employment legislation
  • Able to problem solve and demonstrate operational, commercial and strategic skills
  • Solid UK employment law knowledge and proven experience of applying updated legislation to a variety of HR situation
  • Critical thinking skills

  • CIPD qualified with evidence of continuous professional development
  • Commitment to ongoing learning
  • Outstanding communication skills – able to deliver bad news and give it a positive outlook as well as the ability to influence senior leaders
