The Performance and Reward Manager will develop and embed a performance and reward strategy that encompasses all areas of reward, recognition and benefits to support the company’s aspiration to be recognised as an employer of choice, attracts and retains engaged, high performing colleagues who are fully aligned and motivated to deliver the business’ goals, and underpins a culture of accountability and trust.

As Performance and Reward Manager your key responsibilities will be:

  • Develop Performance and Reward strategy that supports the company’s aspiration to become an employer of choice in our operating areas and aligns and motivates colleague to achieve high performance
  • Develop and manage the annual reward and recognition calendar – pay reviews, AIS, colleague awards – and ensure activities are completed to defined standards
  • Monitor and analyse the impacts of the NMW and Living Wage and with finance colleagues, provide forward cost impacts to be considered in the budgeting process
  • Ensure pay and grading structures are robust and applied equitably and enable organisational and individual growth and career progression. Define and manage the job evaluation process. Train, facilitate and advise the job evaluation panel members to ensure roles are measured using consistent and equitably applied criteria
  • Review and evolve the benefits matrix. Ensure benefits e.g. cars/allowances, pensions, are competitive and cost-effective by grade to support attraction and retention targets and career development
  • Use a variety of media to champion and promote and evaluate the reward and recognition agenda to motivate and engage colleagues
  • Complete salary surveys and conduct regular benchmarking against similar employers. Make recommendations, with a cost-benefit analysis to the leadership team to ensure the organisation’s recruitment and retention is competitive in the market to attract and retain the best people
  • Lead the development of the business’ performance management processes. Work with HR colleagues and key stakeholders to develop and embed appraisal processes at all levels that measure hard and soft KPIs.  Analyse appraisal outputs and prepare annual and half-year reports that identify organisation competence
  • Support the pay negotiation process, providing information and recommendations to the Head of HR Operations and COO, and attend these meetings as appropriate to provide specialist input
  • Assist the HRD in the preparation of reports to the RemCO
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of HR strategy across the operating divisions of the organisation

Key skills required:

  • CIPD qualification (or studying)
  • Specialised skills and experience in reward and benefits
  • Ability to work as a member of the team and in a matrix/retail organisation
  • Confident communicator

  • Analytical with attention to detail
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Stakeholder management
  • HMRC rules relating to pay and benefits
