The latest Southampton based HR Heads Breakfast Forum was a huge success. Kindly hosted by Lawton Communications Group, guest speaker Sally Bibb from Engaging Minds talked us through the application and benefits of ‘Strengths Based Development’. Over coffee and croissants a real buzz was apparent in the room with everyone networking effectively and making new connections. Always interactive in style, the session involved Sally answering lots of questions and engaging with one another about strengths based development and then applying it as a tool in recruitment. The key outcomes of the session were:
• Strengths provide the opportunities for business and personal growth
• Unspoken assumptions such as ‘progression means climbing the ladder’ are challenged by this approach
• A ‘strength’ is innate and highly motivating
• Only 20% of employees in large organisations feel they use their strengths at work every day
• Adding skills and knowledge to strengths creates strong capability
• Our greatest growth potential lies in building on our natural strengths!
